Visit Bedogno

The rolling hills of Tuscany, its misty olive groves and endless vineyards exude a timeless beauty that allures many thousands of visitors from around the world each year. The region is steeped in the culture of the ancient Etruscan civilisations who not only brought wealth and power to Italy but introduced their own style of creative art and architecture. It`s little wonder that the spirit of Tuscany has inspired writers and artists throughout the centuries, so much so in fact that the city of Florence is home to more than half of Italy`s most treasured paintings and frescoes. Even for the visitor today, every panorama is a new work of art, with colours ranging from the vivid yellow of sunflower fields to the deep forest-green of ancient pine woods.

Tucked away in the heart of the Appennino Tosco-Emiliano National Park, the little medieval hamlet of Bedogno is the perfect setting for anyone wishing to escape the stresses of modern life. The mountain ridges that divide Tuscany from Emilia-Romagna herald an area of outstanding natural beauty where the magnificent mountain peaks of Alpe di Succiso, Mt Prado and Mt Cusna tower over lush grasslands, lakes and waterfalls. The area is a haven for wildlife where it isn`t uncommon to spot wolves and roe deer with eagles soaring overhead. This is a landscape which naturally lends itself to all manner of outdoor pursuits including canoeing, hang-gliding and mountain-biking, while rockclimbing enthusiasts will find one of their most exciting challenges in the striking precipices of Pietra di Bismantova. Lying close to the town of Villa Minozzo, picturesque Bedogno is within easy reach of all these outdoor activities as well as being ideally situated simply to relax and be inspired by the colourful beauty of the landscapes.

As a holiday destination, Bedogno offers a selection of private holiday villas in enviable locations enjoying views of the local vineyards or across the Secchia valley. Just a short walk away, Villa Minozzo and its surroundings offer essential amenities in the form of shops, restaurants and bars as well as a swimming pool and refreshing river rock pools, making this the perfect away-from-it-all holiday destination. Not only is Bedogno at the centre of an important wine-producing region, the area is also proud of its reputation as the gastronomic capital of Italy with succulent parma hams and delicious local cheeses throughout the year and truffles to be enjoyed in autumn. These and other delicacies can all be sampled in a profusion of authentic eateries particularly along the route from Bologna to Parma. Bedogno is also ideally located for day trips to Modena, Florence and the beautiful coast of La Spezia and the majestic fortresses of the Emilia-Romagna region, which include the Castles of Torrechiara and Rivalta, make a magnificent backdrop for both scenic photography and paintings.

Whether you`re looking for fun-packed activities or relaxation and tranquility, you`ll find that Bedogno and its surroundings offer everything in abundance. Inspired by everything the landscape has to offer, many visitors come here to enjoy specialist activity breaks such as drawing and painting holidays as well as walking and hiking trips. With several airlines operating flights to nearby Bologna now including budget flights with Ryanair from London Stansted and Edinburgh, this area is more accessible than ever for anyone wishing to pursue an independent break in one of Italy`s most picturesque locations.
